1. ANJALI ASANA

HATHA YOGA PRADIPIKA, VERSES 283-286

TECHNIQUE

  1. Sit with legs stretched keeping the heels on the ground and toes pointing upward
  2. Place both the hands under the buttocks, palms facing upward and fingers closed together
  3. Bring the elbows close to the body as much as possible
  4. Gaze at the center of the eyebrows – Ajna Chakra
  5. Settle in this posture for 60 seconds

2. IN ANJALI-ASANA-UDDIYANA BANDHA-21 TIMES

GHERANDA SAMHITA, UPADESHA 3, VERSE 10

TECHNIQUE

  1. Sit in Anjani Asana
  2. Keep the spine straight
  3. Take a deep breath in and exhale completely
  4. Now rest your chin on your chest raising the shoulders
  5. Pull the abdominal muscles inward so that the organs of the abdomen touch the back muscles
  6. Hold as long as you can
  7. When you can’t hold anymore, relax the abdomen and relax your chin and then inhale through the nostrils slowly
  8. Do this 21 times.

3. IN ANJALI ASANA-AGNI SOMA KUMBHAKA-21 TIMES

KUMBHAKA PADDHATHI, VERSE 87

TRANSLATION

Having inhaled through the right nostril, perform Kumbhaka. Exhale through the other nostril and again inhale through the same nostril through which exhalation was done. Inhaling through the nostril through which it was exhaled and vice versa, it is called Agneeshoma Kumbhaka.

TECHNIQUE

  1. In Anjani Asana perform Agni Soma Kumbhaka
  2. Use your fingers to control the breath
  3. Inhale through the right nostril
  4. Hold the breath as long as you can
  5. Exhale through the left nostril
  6. Now inhale through left nostril
  7. Hold the breath as long as you can
  8. Exhale through right nostril
  9. Do this 21 times

4. IN ANJALI ASANA-VYANA KUMBHAKA-21 TIMES

KUMBHAKA PADDHATHI, VERSE 66

TECHNIQUE

  1. Take a deep breath, fill your chest and stomach
  2. Hold the breath and contract the whole body
  3. Have intense awareness and visualize the whole body contracting: abdomen, throat, chest, back, the whole body
  4. Slowly relax and exhale when you can’t hold anymore
  5. Do this 21 times

KUMBHAKA PADDHATHI, VERSE 170

TECHNIQUE

  1. Inhale deeply and completely through the right nostril
  2. Hold the breath, judiciously
  3. Exhale through the left nostril
  4. Again inhale through the right nostril,
  5. Hold the breath
  6. Exhale through the left nostril
  7. Do this 21 times

  5. Settle in this posture for 60 seconds.

TECHNIQUE

  1. Inhale through both nostrils
  2. Hold the breath judiciously, using the fingers to block the nostrils
  3. Exhale only through the right nostril
  4. Do this for 21 times

8. IN GOMUKHASANA-KUMBHA RAJA-21 TIMES

KUMBHAKA PADDHATHI, VERSE 134

TECHNIQUE

  1. Very forcefully inhale
  2. Hold as long as you can judiciously, using the fingers to block the nostrils
  3. Slowly exhale when you feel you can’t hold anymore
  4. Do this 21 times

9. IN GOMUKHASANA-UJAYI KUMBHAKA-21 TIMES

KUMBHAKA PADDHATHI, VERSES 131-132

TECHNIQUE

  1. Close the mouth
  2. Inhale through both nostrils
  3. Hold the breath judiciously, using the fingers to block the nostrils
  4. Slowly exhale through the left nostril alone
  5. Do this 21 times
  6. Relax.

As this kriya generates lot of heat in your body, drink lot of water and butter milk to cool your body.
